Three fashion buys to refresh your Summer/Vacay wardrobre

summer-fashion-essentials

Summer is my favorite season. I love the weather, all the festivals around the city and most importantly , I love summer fashion!! As soon as the temperature starts raising up I want to buy all the crop tops, shorts, sundresses and swimsuits I laid my eyes on.  Most of the time I don't even get to wear all my summer purchases because in the blink of an eye summer is gone and is time to put the summer clothes in storage until next year. It's not until that moment when I realize that I spent more money that I should've in things I DIDN'T NEED.

I know summer is almost over, but since we've been talking about shopping smart. I wanted to keep the conversation going and share with you the only 3 things you need if you want to update your summer wardrobe:

A FEW FEMININE CROP TOPS:  Crop tops are my summer obsession, they're a much lighter option that a basic tee and they come in many different styles. My favorites are the ruffled crop tops. I think they look a little bit dressier and are much more versatile than a basic cropped tank.

SLIDE SANDALS: Look for a pair of slides that goes well with everything and are comfy enough to wear everyday. This year I saw these everywhere and I think they're perfect.

AN STATEMENT BAG: During summer I tend to lean towards very simple outfits typically a crop top o basic tee, paired with shorts or pants and sandals to finish the look. Adding an statement bag makes a simple outfit pop. Straw bags made an appearance last summer and they're still going strong. I got this one from zappos and I love it. It's the perfect mix between a classic and a straw bag, definitely more versatile than your regular "vacay straw bag" as well.

How to expand your shoe collection on a budget

shoeddlaze-sandals-outfit

I'm wearing: Shoeddazle Jeezebel Strappy sandals (Get your first pair of shoes for $10 when you sign up for Shoedazzle VIP memebership) | Aldo Bag | Forever 21 top (old) - they have tons on their "Logo Shop" | Forever 21 skirt (old) - similar and only $13 this one is on sale for less than $15 - this one is available in petite and regular

How many shoes are too many shoes? I'm not proud to admit that I think I own over 100 pairs ... and counting #sorrynotsorry. At this point you're probably thinking that I spend a lot of money on shoes, but I really don't. Truth is I'm more like a shoe hoarder that also knows where to scout the best deals! Here are some of the things I've learned over the years about shopping for shoes on a budget:

1. Wait until your favorite brands have sales

Some of the brands I recommend that I love and always have the best deals are:

Naturalizer: They're prices range from $80 to $150 but they often have promo codes for up to 50% off , they also put a lot of their stuff for sale at the end of the season or when they have low stock in a product. Another thing I love is that their shoes are the comfiest, I wrote a review of their spring styles here and styled a pair of pumps from day to night here .

Sam edelman: They usually have sales and promo codes for their employees or sister brands employees and they can get their shoes for as low as 50% off. I know this is not an easy one, but I you know someone , don't be affraid to ask them.

Steve Madden: This is my go-to place to shop for trendy shoes on a budget. I rarely see any promos on their website, but I've found that their outlet carries the same styles and they always have a clearance section with prices as low as $19.

2. Enroll in Shoedazzle VIP

I think suscriptions are a great way to stay in a budget IF you commit yourself to ONLY purchase something new through your suscription. It is almost as if you give you a monthly allowance to spend on shoes.
What I like abour Shoedazzle is that they have TONS of styles from classic pumps, to trendy heels, casual flats, and all kinds of sneakers and sandals.  The VIP membership is about $35 per month which is about what a pair of shoes cost. However your first pair will be $10 after you enroll. Talk about savings! Another think I like is that you can skip a month, or just let the credits on your account and save them for any future purchase.

3. Don't be affraid to spend more on a classic or versatile pair of shoes.

I know we are talking about shopping on a budget but it's not all about the price, cost per wear is something we should think about when shopping. Think about this, getting a pair of neon yellow studded stilettos with 5 inches heel for 20 bucks sounds like a great deal right? But realistically, how many times are you going to wear those heels in a year? 1 or 2 tops, and only for a few hours because they're probably the most unconfortable shoes ever. On the other hand, getting a timeless pair of black leather pumps (these are my ABSOLUTE favorite and extremely comfy) for $200 sounds like a huge investement, however you're probably going to wear those more ofter and way more times. Considering you wear your "expensive" black pumps once a week for a year the cost per wear is about $3 (150 dollars/52 weeks = $2.8) VS the cost per wear of the neon pumps of $10 (or maybe $20).

4. Explore other options

If you're like me you're probably always shopping from the same stores all-the-time, why fix it if it's not broken? am I right? Well, NO! Change is good once in a while. Think about all the stores you've never shopped before, take a look and you'd be surprised of the things you'd find. For example, one day sneaking around target shoe section I realized their clearance section (in store) has shoes for as low as $5!!.  On another ocassion while I was binge watching youtube videos I came accross these "walmart shopping hauls", I seriously had no idea they had so many cute shoes in Walmart and ... wait for it ... they also have premium brands. We're talking about Vince Camuto, Sam Edelman, Lord & Taylor , Lucky Brand , Badgley Mischka and more. I recently got these Nine West Pumps for less than $50 there!

2. Suscribete a Shoedazzle VIP

Bed Head by Tigi Festival season must haves

This post is sponsored by Bed Head Styling and Her Campus Media. All opinions are my own.

Ah it's already that time of the year,  grant park is crowded, downtown Chicago is extra lively and there are parties and not so secret concerts popping until the sunrise. You know what I'm talking about: Lolla weekend!

Last year I partnered with Bed Head by Tigi and created these two mini tutorials with some super easy festival hairstyles. This year I'm back at it again but I wanted to talk about Bed Head by Tigi newest product: the Bed Head® Blow Out Freak™ Blow Dryer, I promise this thing is going to be a lifesaver this festival season.

bed-head-by-tigi-hairstyling

I know for most people Lolla weekend is the time to experiment with different styles and be crazy with your hair, but some of us feel our best rocking our hair down, even better if it has lots of volume... and let's be honest not all of us have the extra time, or the patience and creativity that takes to create a different hairstyle every day, specially if you often find yourself rushing out of the door to beat the Chicago traffic and get to places on time.

bed-head-by-tigi-hairstyling

Completely drying my hair right after I washed it and creating these loose waves with lots of volume at the bottom took me only a few minutes with this Bed Head® Blow Out Freak™ Blow Dryer.  It still feels crazy to write about it because it typically takes me about 20 to 30 minutes just to dry my hair with a regular dryer and then an extra 10 to make some curls with my thickest curling wand.

All I did was combing my hair from roots to ends with the Blow Out Freak on its highest setting.  I took some pieces at the end and twisted them around the barrel/comb to make the ends wavy. The longer and closer to the roots you leave the Blow Out Freak the more volume you get. Isn't it great?

To make sure my hair is going to stay in place for a long time I sprayed some Bed Head by Tigi Hard Head. This is THE BEST hairspray out there!

bed-head-by-tigi-hairstyling

Another thing you can do, is simply combing  your hair until completely dry and then use Bed Head by tigi Queen Beach Salt Infused Texture Spray all throughout your hair and scrunch it up to get those perfect messy beach waves . Also for extra body and volumen you can use Bed Head Oh Bee Hive Matt dry Shampoo on your roots and ends, this will also help to keep the humidity away and your hair feeling cleaner and non-greasy for longer.

But let's be honest dancing all day long under the sun will definitely get your hair dirty, sweaty and a little bit smelly.  Most of the time after I come back from a festival the first thing I want to do after I get home is to wash my hair and go to bed feeling clean, but I don't do it often just because I know that drying my hair is usually a hassle and I'm to tired to deal with that. I absolutely love the Blow Out Freak does the job in minutes and I won't have to chose between going to bed with damp hair or dirty hair.

If you also like to wash your hair after a long festival day I recommend the Totally Beachin' cleansin Jelly Shampoo and the After Sun conditioner, together they get rid of sweat & sand while also treating and protecting your hair from the sun damage. Definitely a must have for summer & festival season!

What do you think about this guy? Aren't you so excited to try the Blow Out freak?

The one summer collection you need to check out right now

karen-kane-summer-collection

One of the things I really like about having this little space of mine are all the opportunities I get to collaborate with brands that I love and I've been using forever, but also to discover new brands and try their products.

I rencelty collaborated with Karen Kane on an instagram post (no they're not sponsoring this post) and I really liked the clothing they sent me, the quality is great and I loved that their new collection has lots of spring and summer pieces that are appropiate for work but ready to meet your girls at a rooftop right after. For real!! They have lots of flowy tops (with and witouth sleeves) knee lengh dresses , and maxi dresses that would be super cute for your next summer vacay. You definitely need to check them out.

Here are some of my favorite pieces:

The cargo jacket, a must have.

cargo-jacket-outfit

I'm wearing: Forever 21 basic tee |  Levis mile high supper skinny jeans . They come in black too  | Cargo Jacket from stitfix (get a $25 credit with this link) - love this one for less than $35 | Shoes - Dansko Odina (run big, I recommend to size down) - I also love these VANS leather slip ons

It's July already but here in Chicago doesn't feel like summer yet. Although is definitely warmer than it was a month ago, sometimes a light jacket is still much needed, specially during the night.

A cargo jacket is my go-to during those days. It goes well with everything. You know most of the time I'm super casual so I like to wear mine with simple t-shirts jeans and comfy shoes. You can also wear it over a floral dress (I love the mix of girly and edgy) , or make it a little bit dressier by pairing with a feminine cami and heels for a date night.

--
