Chopping down our first Christmas Tree

This is not Eric & I first Christmas together, but this year is a little bit more special because we took a trip to Richardson’s farms to chop down our own tree. Chevrolet let us borrow the 2019 All-New Chevy Silverado LT for the occasion, and let me tell you, that made the trip much more fun. The little smirk Eric had the entire ride while driving the truck made my day. The extra leg space, and lots of storage to transport our tree and new Christmas décor were just added bonuses.

One of the things we loved about this farm, is that it’s not only a field full of trees. They also have a Christmas décor shop with every supply you need to set up your tree, a make your own garland station and even a wine, beer & snacks stand!  On the weekends they have a free wagon ride from and to the fields that also hauls the tree back to the cabin where they will prepare your tree to take it back home. Inside the cabin you can enjoy homemade popcorn, donuts & hot chocolate. You better believe I took one of each for the ride back home.

While we were on the hunt for the perfect Christmas tree we quickly realized we weren’t prepared for the task. So here are some tips Chevy shared with us that I’m sure will make your first tree Chopping experience much better than ours.

1. Measure the space in your home: So you know exactly what size tree will fit as you pick one out.  We didn’t do this, so we spent a huge amount of time going back and forward between the big trees section (because Eric wanted a huge fluffy tree)  and the baby ones (which is what actually fits on my living room).

2. Stay warm: Bundle up, wear boots, a beanie and bring a pair of gloves even if it’s “not that cold”, because you’ll be outside for a few hours. Also don’t forget to bring a piece of cardboard to kneel on while you cut your tree down.

3. Choose Wisely: Inspect the trees before you pick one out. The National Christmas Tree Association recommends testing out the branches to make sure the tree isn’t too dry or unhealthy.

4. Chop Chop: Cut your tree low to the ground and straight across. Have a buddy pull the tree slightly away from the side you’re cutting to prevent the saw from binding and make it easier to cut all the way through.  I skipped this last point and instead of helping Eric, spent the entire time filming him and laughing while he struggled. It made this task much more fun (to me at least)

5. Use netting: All trees should be put into netting or a sleeve for easy transport.

6. Tie it down tight: Center your tree in the bed of the truck, loop twine through the integrated tie-down hooks and repeat to cinch with a “figure-8” motion securing the tree. In the 2019 Silverado, there are 12 fixed tie downs stationed throughout the bed of the truck to help you secure the tree from moving around while you drive.

7. Don’t forget to water your tree: Make sure you put your tree into water immediately when you get home and place it away from heat sources like fireplaces or radiators that can dry it out. That way you can keep it alive and healthy all holiday season long!

After this trip, we made great memories & had a lot of fun, so we I decided to do this a Christmas tradition. Eric on the other hand, decided that this is the car he’s getting next. If you missed his instastories review here it is:

“It’s huge, has lots of storage, great gas mileage, every new technology , feels like a luxury car on the inside but it’s bold and sturdy on the outside… in other words, it’s dope!”

Tell me in a comment, what are your Christmas traditions? Do you also chop your own tree? What is your best advice for a chopping a tree newby like me?

10 gift ideas for HIM & HER

A few weeks ago I asked you on insta stories if you'd like me to create a Gift guide before Christmas and I was surprised to find out that most of you said YES!. So I put this list together with some ideas that would work for both girls & guys. Whether you’re shopping for a friend, coworker, or a gift exchange I'm sure here you'll find the perfect gift here.

Such a traditional gift that I couldn't leave it out of this list. I love these joggers from TomboyX because although you can find them under the category of sleepwear, they definitely look more aproppiate to wear at the gym. Perfect for the guy who refuses to wear regular pj's but is looking for something soft & warm to sleep with.  Or someone like me who loves a versatile piece . I can totally see myself wearing them outside the house  in fact  I'm wearing these joggers as I write this and let me tel you they are the softest & warmest thing .

We all know socks go in pairs into the washing machine, and somehow they aways end up single. I don't know about you but I'm constantly buying extra socks for this reason. This is why I love being gifted socks, points extra if they're cute.

This can be a great gift for someone who is planning a trip. This set can be monogramed and comes in different colors.

I recently discovered TomboyX and it immediatly became a favorite. All of their products are unisex,  great quality, and they come in a wide range of sizes. The 4'5 trunks are the comfiest thing. I got a 3 pack of those for Eric and he loves them. I also got us these Christmas trunks to match!

Ray ban sunglasses have been around and trendy for a while and they're not going anywhere.  You can't never go wrong with the classic 3016 or a good pair of aviators.

Talking about winter must-haves. Good gloves always come in handy. Make this useful gift a little bit more luxurius by choosing a nice pair of leather gloves.

Definitely a must if you live in a cold weather city like Chicago. I love a plaid scarf to add a pop of color on an outfit. Banana Republic & J. Crew have the best ones

This wireless speaker has come in handy during each trip & get together this year. The sound is amazing and the battery life lasts during an entire party . It is waterproof and also comes in different colors

These are definitely the most stylish and versatile shoes on the game, and they're also unisex! You know how much I love my Arlo boots from Clark shoes and I think these ones from Nordstrom Rack are a very similar option for men.

Everyone use them, every one needs them, everyone loves them! Boys and girls alike (wheter the guys ask for them or not, we all know they want them) I love that during the holidays most brands come up with skin care sets that you can buy at a fraction of the price.  This Clinique set for men it's only $14 and it's great for the guy who likes a simple routine. I also like this one from Origins and it comes with a Case. For the girls, you can't go wrong with the 3 step routine from Clinique or this set from Philosophy.  My two favorie products from Maelle now also come with an special price on the " ready to glow set" ($10off with code abril10) .

Six Flags Great America!

I received a complimentary car loan in exchange for the post, but all comments and opinions are mine. Thanks for supporting the brands that make The Color Palette possible.

I'm wearing: UNIQLO fleece top | Clark arlo booties   | jeans - similar - similar  | ZARA utility jacket - similar - similar | Nike tanjun shoes

Remember that time when I was chasing fall folliage in style driving my Chevy Equinox. Well, that wasn't the only fun thing we did! Chevrolet also invited us to visit Six Flags great america during the firght fest to, of course enjoy the park, but also to check out their new 2019 Models. At their stand , they had an Equinox just like the one I’ve been driving and the  Chevy Malibu which I was really impressed by its new sporty look  and the fact that now it’s also available with an hybrid engine ( just look at my face walking from the stand after checking out the car!) I love a fuel efficient car so I’ll definitely be taking a closer look at this one.

Desiree of fashion lingual tagged along during our trip and she was the best six flags buddy. She not only took all of these pictures, she also jumped on every ride with me and she’s super afraid of heights. If you follow me on instagram you probably remember my instastories from that day , specially this one  where me and Desi are screaming at the top of our lungs when riding the Joker. That pretty much summarizes  our day. I'm definitely not afraid of heights but I feel like, screaming , laughing and being silly is part of the fun !

Do you like attraction parks? What is your favorite ride?

Zaful is by far my favorite affordable online store. They always have the latest trends, their size chart is accurate and most clothes come true to size (no need to size up 2 or 3 times to get clothes that barely fit) , and their quality is much better than other overseas stores.
They recently sent me some of their new arrivals, like this super fluffly teddy coat that I can't believe is only $24 (much less after discounts) & this laceup sweater  that I'm obsessed with. It is so versatile that I decided to show you 3 ways to style with along with other items that I got from the store. I actually have more pictures of each outfit but I'm going to save those for future posts....

What is your favorite outfit 1,2 or 3?

This Teddy coat is only $24. Its a little bit oversized and the warmest thing ever // El abrigo costo solo $24 y es de lo mas calientito

The patent leather ankle boots are so trendy right now. This pair is $47 but currently there is a buy 3 get 30% off  promo on the website. // Las botitas de charol estan super de moda, estas cuestan $47 pero hay una promocion de 30% de descuento cuando compras 3 cosas, hay que aprovechar

Plaid pants are less than $15. They come a little bit big so size down // Los pantalones estan a menos de $15, si vienen un poco amplios asi que si lo que buscas es un estilo mas justo te recomiendo pedirlos una talla mas chica.

Finally this courdoroy skirt that I've been looking for like crazy . It has an extra discount when you use the code WARM18 // Por ultimo esta faldita que habia estado buscando como loca!

Chasing fall folliage with Chevrolet

I received a complimentary car loan in exchange for the post, but all comments and opinions are mine. Thanks for supporting the brands that make The Color Palette possible.

Another fall is almost over and once again I didn't visit a single pumpkin patch. However I spent the last days of October driving the brand new Chevy Equinox. If you ask me that was something 10 times more fun because  I've been daydreaming with this car ever since Chevrolet let me borrow it for the first time (and I wrote this post!).

Right after the car was delivered I thought its color was perfect to match with the fall scenery, so the first thing we did was driving it around the city to find a spot with lots of fall foliage and take these pictures. This little coincidence couldn't have worked out better!

I have to admit that I've always been a compact car type of girl. I feel tiny cars are much more convenient to drive around the city and are easier to park. If you live in Chicago you probably know how stressfull those things can be. However, the Chevy Equinox has a ton of Safety features that make driving in a crowded city much better. From alerts that let you know if you’re getting out of your lane, or when it detects a vehicle on your blind side. It also alerts you  when you’re following too close another vehicle  and it even breaks for you  to avoid a collision! By the way, did I mention that I can also connect my phone vía Bluetooth which integrates it on on the dashboard and allows me to control it with voice commands. Talk about cars getting smarter than us!

After driving this car for a few days ,  it is once again at the top of my list.

Basics, not so basic.

I'm wearing: RE/DONE jeans | Forever 21 top | ZARA pumps (sold out) - similar  - similar - similar | Forever 21 coat : similar - similar |

You know I'm always talking about how basics pieces are the most important part to build your wardrobe. Black pants, a good blazer, a white buttoned shirt , a camel coat. Something just as important and that most of us wear almost every day are our always loved denim Jeans. A good, well fitted pair of dark wash denim is a MUST. It can be paired with jeans and a t-shirt for casual look, or you can dress them up paired with a blazer and pumps. The jeans I'm wearing today are from Re/Done and for me they are THE PERFECT dark wash jeans. The price tag may be a little hefty but these are not your typical stretchy denim jean. This denim is the real deal, repurposed vintage Levi's denim perfectly tailored into a new style that will fit like a glove and will last forever. I think whar RE/DONE is doing is amazing and you can read more about it HERE.

As far as sizing, you need to remember that this denim is not stretchy, so it can be a little bit of a struggle for us peachy girls. I'm wearing a size 27 and I think they run just a tad tight which doesn't botter me at all because I wanted perfectly fitted jeans. However if you want a more relaxed fit, you may consider to order a size up.

Skin Care round-up part 1: Cleanse & Exfoliate

Hi Guys, It’s been a while since we talked about skin care here.  I’ve been working on this post for a few months now because I spent a lot of time carefully choosing each product to make sure I’m only showing you my absolute favorites.

At first I was going to do a huge roundup with a few different options for each step but after asking for your opinion on Instagram, I’ve found out that multiple smaller post would make things easier and less overwhelming for you. So here we are, your wish is my command! Let’s start with my less favorite steps on my skin care routine: Cleanse & Exfoliate .

The very first and most important step in your skin care routine should be removing your makeup.  But let’s be real, is also the most tedious thing in the world, that’s why I like to use products that are effective and easy to use.

I’m very into the double cleansing method so when it comes to makeup removers, I prefer creams, oils and such. This cold cream from Kate Somerville, the peony oil from L’occitane and this new one from Lancôme are my top three.  However, I still keep this in my nightstand for those nights when I’m too tired and I just want a quick fix before going to bed.

I use the cold cream on those days when my skin needs some extra hydration. It leaves my skin super smooth and it does a great job removing stubborn mascara. The Peony petal cleansing oil from L’occitane is another super moisturizing makeup remover, I think it’s no different than any other cleansing oils out there but I really like the peony fragrance. It adds some fun to the experience, if you prefer fragrance free products this may not be for you (It’s quite strong!).

Last but not least, this Lancôme miel-en-mousse cleanser which I have to admit I hated the first time I use it. It is supposed to have a honey-like texture but I find it thicker than that and not easy to move around, so I often found myself rubbing my facer harder than I’d like. After some days of trial and error I found out that if you use it when your face is a little bit wet, the cleanser is easier to use.

It has become one of my favorites because it dissolves layers of makeup to nothing. It retails for $26 and I’ve been using it pretty much every day for the past year and I still have a quarter of a bottle left!

These two were the easiest one to pick, probably because they are the only products I’ve been using for the past two years.

I discovered PCAskin after my first session microdermabrasion at George the salon. After my appointment I was sent home with a mini kit to use during my recovery.  Out of the entire set, I liked the face wash, so I ordered this one specifically design for oily and breakout-prone skin. This is a scent-free gentle cleanser that contains ingredients (lactic acid & aloe vera) that moisturize and soothe the skin. My skin feels clean and tight after I use it, but not dry at all. Although this is described on the website a gentle cleanser (and it is, in my opinion) I need to mention that it has gluconolactone which is an exfoliant very similar to lactic acid and it can be irritating for some.

I use the PCAskin cleanser mostly during summer, when my skin tends to be oilier. The rest of the time the Malin Goetz grapefruit cleanser is my go to. This a hydrating cleanser that works for every skin type, especially sensitive. It was the very first product created by Mathew Malin to personally address his rosacea problem. It has amynoacids and glycerin that hydrates the skin, and grapefruit extract which is a natural cleanser but also smells delicious. It reminds me a lot of this other product.

I have to admit, I’m not the biggest fan of physical exfoliants, aka facial scrubs, because they typically are harsh on the skin and stripe the natural oils from your skin, which can cause breakouts or more oiliness. But I still think they are necessary for those days when you have some death skin or texture you want to quickly get rid off. Those days I use Kate Somerville Exfolikate , I love it but it really stings and can be very irritating for some. If you have really sensitive skin I'd try this sample kit first before jump on the full size version.

My number 1 exfoliant is this lotion from Pixi beauty that I use every other night. It's not in the picture because I have a HUGE bottle and it didn't photograph well, but you can fin it HERE. I love that it's super inexpensive.

Another chemical exfoliant I've been using recently is this from Maelle Beauty. It is gentle enough for sensitive skin and it's made from natural ingredients and antioxidants. I'm currently working with them and I've tried all of the products even before they were released and this polish was a YES since the first application. It's $24 when you use my code abril10.

Despite popular beliefs, property moisturize your skin from step 1 is what keeps your skin oil-free. So if you have oily skin stay away from drying cleansers and lotions and go for a gentle and moisturizer cleansers instead. Most of these retail for over $20 but in  they worth every penny these bottles are huge and you only need a tiny amount per use.

Have you use any of these? Also leave me your skin care reccos in a comment below!
